The Connecticut Childbirth & Women's Center is now fully accredited by both the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
Accreditation is a mark of achievement - a signal to families, third party payors and other providers of health care services that the Connecticut Childbirth & Women's Center has voluntarily sought evaluation of the quality of the services that it provides. It means that the birth center seeks to uphold established standards for excellence and is willing to be measured through a process of internal and external review.The Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers is the only accrediting body whose goal is unique to birth centers. Other accrediting organizations review a variety of health care facilities. When a center is accredited by the Commission, the childbearing family can be confident that the center has demonstrated adherence to standards of quality above that of basic licensure and that the center’s care is consistent with the philosophy of the American Association of Childbearing Centers. The Commission is the only birth center accrediting body whose site visitors are specifically trained to perform a visit and whose review panels have first-hand knowledge of the philosophy, purpose and operation of birth centers.
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations evaluates and accredits more than 18,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, the Joint Commission is the nation's predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Accreditation by the Joint Commission is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality which indicates that an organization meets certain performance standards. To earn and maintain accreditation, an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years.
