Laura Matthews MSN, FNP-c, CNM
Laura has a broad background including emergency room, cardiac care, ICU and hospice nursing prior to midwifery school. During her clinical training, Laura had the opportunity to experience birth across the spectrum. She spent time in Houston Texas at Ben Taub and the remainder of her experience was with practices of independent nurse-midwives in hospital settings.
Her first position was in Charleston WV at the state's only Free Standing birth center as part of the National Health Service Corps. She has two years of recent experience in an urban tertiary care setting.
Laurie understands that women have differing expectations and needs when it comes to labor and birth whether in the hospital or birth center setting. She strongly advocates the midwifery model of care, providing women with support, information and options that allow them to be partners in health care decision making.
Laura is currently working on her Doctorate degree as a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) which focuses on improving health care systems and innovative advancements in nursing. She has a special interest in health care discrepancies
